The Little Ice Age

We saw most of this show last night on the History Channel about the devastation wrought by the Little Ice Age. From the site:

Scientists call it the Little Ice Age--but its impact was anything but small. From 1300 to 1850, a period of cataclysmic cold caused havoc. It froze Viking colonists in Greenland, accelerated the Black Death in Europe, decimated the Spanish Armada, and helped trigger the French Revolution. The Little Ice Age reshaped the world in ways that now seem the stuff of fantasy--New York Harbor froze and people walked from Manhattan to Staten Island, Eskimos sailed kayaks as far south as Scotland, and "the year without a summer" saw two feet of snow fell on New England one June and July.

"It froze Viking colonists in Greenland" -- see? It used to be green! And if global warming keeps it up, it shall be green again. And as I've said before, the South shall rise again ... and we shall call it ALABAMANTARCTICA!

It helped trigger the French Revolution?

We didn't see the whole thing, but apparently the little ice age contributed to widespread famine in Europe ...

We should've DVRed that. We've been DVRing so much stuff from the History Channel, it's ridiculous. I'll have to see if it comes on again.

Not only did it contribute to Famine, it caused innocent women to be burned at the stake:

"The unusually severe thunderstorm hit Central Europe on 3. August 1562 in a
state of progressive sensibilisation for meteorological events....Here and
elsewhere the mechanism of torture, confession, and denunciation led to an
extension from singular cases to witch-hunts. The largest hunt occurred in
the small territory of Wiesensteig, belonging to the Lutheran counts of
Helfenstein, where within a year 63 women were burned as witches."

Zealots have been using fear of Climate Change for Centuries as a way of gaining power.

I think Modern Day Global Warming Alarmists are no different, only today, they want to burn American Prosperity at the stake.

Thanks for stopping by again Tim!

Whether or not global warming is caused by humans or not, climate change is inevitable -- look at history -- not to mention the chance of a giant asteroid hitting the earth and REALLY fucking it up.

He didn't ask me to plug for him, but Tim is a hilarious libertarian comedian who I first heard on Sirius Raw Dog. You can download his album "Europa" on iTunes, SpiralFrog, Amazon, and elsewhere, I'm sure. Also, vote for him for the funniest tax video in the Turbotax competition (http://www.timslagle.com/)!

"climate change is inevitable"

Absolutely.

Even if it IS caused by humans, (realclimate.org claims that no more than 60% of the observed warming is Anthropogenic) there is no way humans are going to stop burning carbon. Everybody loves electricity and cars.

You might as well try and get people to stop having sex.

Thanks for the plug!
